A PHOTO FROM THE “SHIFT” SERIES BY KANIS

The video capture came from action that took place in a closed venue located in the building of an old museum. The employees are engrossed in their daily chores that demand strict compliance with the regulations. Everything is taking its usual course until one of the characters succumbs to their desires and throws the clockwork mechanism off balance. The photograph of the video frame is an illustration of procrastination that haunts the characters, the feeling of irrelevance in their surroundings, and impossibility of breaking the existing order.

THE GIRL WITH AN ORE

This weightless, transparent figure is gazing forward, as though starting to move and immediately joining the bulky figures created by Shadr and Iodko. The artists, however, have removed its bulky contents, leaving only the outer shell, a computer avatar made out of a semitransparent mesh.

EIDOS WITH A DROP OF BLOOD

Philosophy is an important source of inspiration for Pivovarov. The artist explores new points of growth in subjects that are normally dealt with by philosophers. Consciousness, existence, the essence of works of art and whether they should be incarnated in tangible objects to start existing in reality. And so, he makes eidos the protagonists of a whole series of his paintings. «Eidos» is a Platonic term denoting an idea- philosophical concept that the idea of objects preceded the existence of these very same objects. «I jokingly call these paintings cloned, as they are something between the suprematism of Malevich and the surrealism of De Chirico». They are an attempt to create an ideal model of a human. No, not even a model, but an idea, a sketch. In Pivovarov's art eidos acquire human traits, however, still remain asexual, ethereal, and dispassionate. “Eidos with a drop of blood” was created during the artist’s correspondence with Olga Serebryanaya, a philosopher and journalist. These letters are the basis of Pivovarov’ exhibition project "The Philosophical Papers of Olga Serebryanaya" in the La Brique gallery in Frankfurt (2012). These subsequently gained value as an independent work and were turned into a book about art and philosophy.

THE PHILOSOPHICAL DOG

According to Plato, the dog is a philosophical animal that bases its judgements purely on knowledge. The question remains: whose knowledge does it rely on? And what breed is it?

THE PHILOSOPHER AND THE ARTIST

The dialogue about eidos directly affects the tools for philosophers and artists. Upon comparison, it turns out, that the artist is in a more advantageous position on the philosopher’s home ground, the reality analysis. Dealing with visuals, instead of words, he is able to avoid traps of the imperfect and intricate language.

FROM THE SVETLANA ZAKHAROVA. STILL FRAME PROJECT. #0003

Having accepted the offer from the Multimedia Art Museum to be photographed for the project “Still Frame”, the star of world ballet and prima ballerina of the Bolshoi, Svetlana Zakharova was the one to choose the photographer. She chose Vladimir Fridkes. To him Zakharova is a queen gifted with a perfect body and mind. Every still frame lives on the edge of real and imaginary. From the air, the photographer captures specific movements that give birth to the ballerina’s dance. She is aware of her talent and phenomenal ability to express nature’s splendor with her own body.
